UK contract chemistry company Peakdale Molecular has agreed a multi-year deal to supply contract discovery chemistry services to Pfizer.

The compounds, synthesised by Peakdale, will augment Pfizer's internal drug discovery programmes. The agreement, which is for a period of one to three years, creates a springboard for the company from intermediates into drug discovery, said Peakdale ceo Kimberley Morrison, and paves the way for other such contracts. It will account for around 20% of Peakdale's current capacity.

The company has recently installed a new kilolab that will allow it to undertake a range of chemistries in batch sizes from 1-5kg. Due to come on stream in March, the new facility houses 30l and 50l glass-jacketed vessels with operating temperatures from -40°C to +200°C. Test rigs of 5l and 10l capacity have been installed to allow small batch production and hazard evaluation prior to larger scale manufacture.

To meet growing demand Peakdale will be recruiting another 12 chemists and will be kitting out two more research labs in coming months.
