Dr Varadaraj Elango has been appointed sales and marketing manager of Clariant Life Science Molecules, a business unit of the life science and electronic chemicals division of Clariant. Dr Elango will be responsible for the sales and marketing of intermediates and APIs to pharmaceutical companies in North America with specific emphasis on developing relationships with virtual pharma businesses.

Product monitoring equipment company Thermo Goring Kerr has appointed Andrew Game as UK field sales manager. Meanwhile, Peter Mayor has been promoted to the position of engineering manager. He was previously senior mechanical design engineer.

Tuchenhagen UK, the Warrington-based subsidiary of German process engineering and equipment group GEA, has appointed Dermot Donnelly as its new managing director. He replaces Eddie Kuhlenbaumer, who has retired, and has been with GEA for 17 years, both in the liquid processing division and the automation r&d division.

Dr Graham Rideal, managing director of Whitehouse Scientific, has been elected to the Council of the Filtration Society, to which he brings expertise in the certification of filter meshes.

Trevor Gregory has succeeded Eric Drewery as ABB UK group representative. He will continue as head of utilities and power technology products divisions in the UK.

Alfa Laval has appointed Mike McConvey (below) to take charge of the company's equipment division, while Yves Salque is responsible for parts and service. McConvey replaces Victor Mazza, who has returned to the US as vice president, business development.

Drug delivery company Vectura has appointed Anne Hyland to the position of chief financial officer. She joins the company from Celltech Group, where she was most recently director of corporate finance. Previously, she was group financial controller and finance director of the Celltech/Medeva UK Pharma division, where she was responsible for the divestment of the UK vaccines business to Powderject.
