PPG Sipsy adds ozonolysis capability

Published: 1-Nov-2002

PPG-Sipsy, the pharmaceutical products business of PPG Industries, has installed a low-temperature ozonolysis unit at its site in Plenan le Grand in France to supplement its multipurpose reaction capabilities.

'Low-temperature ozonolysis is a highly efficient, environmentally friendly process that allows us to manufacture an array of functionalised molecules by double-bond cleavage,' said Michael McGarry, PPG general manager, fine chemicals. 'Combined with the other technologies in our toolbox, such as phosgene chemistry, asymmetric hydrogenation and hydride reductions, this new capability will enable us to better serve our customers' growing needs for custom synthesis of pharmaceutical fine chemicals.'

In addition to the ozonolysis unit, PPG-Sispy has expanded its capacity for reduction chemistry at the site. This will enable it to do downstream reductions of ozonides, for example, McGarry added.
