Qiagen makes Japanese purchase

Netherlands-based biotechnology company Qiagen has acquired Sawady Technology Co. of Tokyo to strengthen its operations in Japan. The Dutch firm has exchanged shares worth US$18m (e15m) for shares of the biotech start-up. Sawady, a manufacturer of reagents used for genome analysis, is Qiagen's first manufacturing base in Japan.
