Roche rings in the new year changes

Heino von Prondzynski, ceo of Roche Diagnostics, has announced that he will retire in the course of next year in order to pursue personal interests.
Severin Schwan, currently regional head of Roche Diagnostics in the Asia-Pacific region, will replace him as of 1 January 2006. Hailing from Austria, he is a graduate in economics and holds a doctorate in law. He has also served as head of Global Finance & Services for Roche Diagnostics since joining the company in 1993.
1 January will also see Burkhard G Piper, recently appointed head of the diagnostics business unit of Roche Diabetes Care, become a member of the Enlarged Corporate Executive Committee. A German, born 1961, he has a diploma in industrial economics and started his career in 1985 with Boehringer Mannheim, which was later acquired by Roche. He was appointed general manager of Roche Diagnostics Canada in 1999 and in 2002 took over as head of Centralized Diagnostics.
