Roquette wins glucose case

Published: 30-Apr-2001

French company Roquette FrEres has won a case at withholding in 1990 of FFr292,306 export refunds by France's National Cereals Joint Trades Office for a consignment of glucose syrup to Austria, for use in penicillin manufacture. The office had the European Court of Justice, regarding the demanded additional evidence that the syrup had been consumed in Austria (then outside the EU), but the company maintained that this was not required by European regulations. Following a long legal battle, the ECJ has backed Roquette, which is now expected to receive the full refund.
