Laboratory and process equipment provider Sartorius has officially started up operations at its new Euro 10m plant in Beijing.

The plant doubles Sartorius's production capacity in China from 4,000m2 to more than 8,000m2; an additional building phase makes it possible to quadruple the floor space in the future.

In China, Sartorius manufactures lab balances and selected product lines of its industrial weighing equipment, for instance, platform scales, checkweighers and truck scales. The company has been manufacturing these products in China since 1996, and had already extended its production operations in 2003.

The new plant is intended to supply the Chinese and other Asian markets. It is located in the Tianzhu Airport Industrial Zone in the direct vicinity of the Beijing International Airport, thus offering good logistical connections besides ample space.

Thanks to its long-standing presence in China Sartorius had gained high brand awareness and enjoys a strong market position, said ceo and executive board chairman Dr Joachim Kreuzburg.

"Having already been highly successful with lab balances throughout a decade, our business with industrial weighing equipment is now also developing at a rapid pace," he added. "We are profiting from the high investments of global groups in China by covering their needs for weighing equipment in their on-site production processes."
