Schreiner puts the seal on authenticity
A technologically sophisticated security system that is hard to copy but enables consumers easily to recognise authentic product has been developed by German company Schreiner ProSecure in the form of a DryPeel-Seal with an integrated random number. The system is being used by a hospital-care products manufacturer to verify the authenticity of its drugs manufactured in China.
The security seal is applied to the closing flap of ampoule packs in an automatic dispensing process. The composite material consists of two layers that are permanently bonded to each other. During the manufacturing process, prior to joining the layers together, a random number is integrated into the seal. To check the product's authenticity, the consumer simply exposes the random number and can then have it verified by contacting a call centre or going to an internet website. Authenticity is confirmed if the number matches the product. If the number has been queried before, it will automatically be blocked. Feedback on duplicate numbers can also provide the manufacturer with important information that counterfeit products may be in circulation.
Before opening, the DryPeel-Seal is completely opaque, concealing the random number from the outside. Once the seal has been opened the pack cannot be reclosed as the DryPeel effect prevents the upper label from re-adhering to the surface after removal. The material incorporates additional integrated security features: complex Guilloche and micro-text printing ensures that the seal cannot be copied, while UV-luminescent security printing can confirm authenticity through visual inspections using standard UV-lamps. The seal is applied to the surface like any conventional label.
