Sigma-Aldrich and Caliper Life Sciences are collaborating to develop and co-market a series of automated turnkey solutions for a wide variety of applications in genomics, proteomics, and drug discovery.

The two companies are developing a series of pre-optimised and validated automation protocols using Caliper's Sciclone ALH 3000 Liquid Handling Workstation with a variety of Sigma-Aldrich's biochemicals and reagent kits.

The first kits to have been automated include Sigma's Extract-N-Amp Blood and Tissue kits - novel systems for the rapid extraction and subsequent amplification of genomic DNA from blood and animal tissues, as well as HIS-Select Integrated Lysis and Purification (iLAP) plates - a platform for purifying recombinant proteins. Validated automation protocols for these kits are now available for download (see link).

'Caliper Life Sciences, with its advanced liquid handling and LabChip technologies, is clearly on the leading edge of innovation when it comes to developing tools to accelerate drug discovery and basic research,' commented Keith Jolliff, global strategic marketing manager at Sigma-Aldrich.

'By combining Sigma-Aldrich's innovative molecular biology and proteomics kits with Caliper's strength in automation we will be able to deliver true walk-away solutions to the research community.'
