Slivers slip smoothly with polymer coating
Poeton Industries is coating the blade clamps and blade supports of two specialised machines from Thermo Shandon — the Microtome and Cryotome. The machines are designed to cut tissue in preparation for histology and research laboratory analysis.
The Apticote 460G composite coating combines the protection of low friction polymers with the hardness and corrosion resistance of nickel.
Both the Thermo Shandon machines have extremely precise cutting blades that slice sample down to one micron thick. Specimens move against the blade, which is fixed in position and held rigid with the blade support and blade clamp. It is vital that the samples do not fold or crease, so it is essential that they slide easily away from the support and clamp. Apticote 460G provides the necessary low friction, as well as being very wear-resistant.
