Spectrometer identifies lower concentrations

The field of drug metabolism pharmacokinetics will be the main area of impact for the hybrid liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry system from Applied Biosystems.

The API 4000 LC/MS/MS triple quadrupole system offers a possible ten-fold increase in sensitivity, says the company, giving researchers the ability to identify drug candidates at lower concentrations than previously possible.

The API 4000's ion source can switch ionisation modes while using a single housing. Users can change from electrospray ionisation to atmospheric pressure chemical ionisation by switching a single probe.

Analyst software offers a high degree of automation and data processing. Advanced software, such as information dependent acquisition (IDA) and automation increase throughput by maximising the information from a single LC/MS run.
