Speedy viscometry

Published: 28-Aug-2001

Process over 50 samples a day with the automatic viscometer from Philip Harris Scientific, says the company. The PC-controlled Lauda Processor-Viscosity-System PVS 1 offers full automation of capillary viscometry.

Capillary viscometry has traditionally involved a great deal of manual work. In contrast, when the PVS 1 is used with the robot autosampler VAS 1, it can automatically load up to four independently operating capillary viscometers using a robotic syringe. Automation includes sample measurement, sample removal and the thorough cleaning of the capillary viscometers and robotic autosampler syringe. Each position can be at a different place in the cycle, saving even more time.

The sequence of individual measurements and the assignment of the samples to the viscometers is determined by a simple mouse click. Sample name, viscometer data and measurement parameters are taken from a table stored in the program.
