Squaring up better space utilisation
The new Duran square bottles from Schott Glass are aimed at helping laboratories make better use of valuable space. Available in four sizes, 100ml, 250ml, 500ml and 1000ml, the square bottles will improve space utilisation on shelves and in refrigerators, autoclaves and transport systems, the company claims. In autoclaves, for instance, a standard sterilisation unit compatible with DIN 58 946 can handle 72 x 100ml Duran bottles compared with just 50 round Duran bottles of the same capacity. This will result in time and energy savings, while increasing productivity.
Made of borosilicate glass, the bottles can resist chemical attack and thermal shock, and can be sterilised up to 140°C, while withstanding freezing down to -40°C. They are easy to clean as brushes and apparatus washers are able to reach every part, while the square sides are slightly convex to allow good convection during sterilisation.
