Stratophase wins
Stratophase, a UK specialist in chemical and biochemical measurement and detection, has secured
The additional investment will enable the company, a spin-out from Southampton University, to roll out its SpectroSens real-time monitoring technology, recruit key staff and move to larger premises.
The SpectroSens optical microchip technology is being developed for a number of applications in process measurement and bio-detection, including in-line monitoring of pharmaceutical manufacturing (both small molecule and bio-pharmaceuticals).
The company says a multinational pharmaceutical company is currently evaluating the system.
Stratophase is headed by ceo Dr Richard Williams.

Bioprocess control in line using optical sensing
Process Analytical Techniques (PAT) and Quality by Design (QbD) initiatives are leading the industry to adopt real-time, continuous monitoring techniques that allow better knowledge from inside the process. Historically, process control has been a combination of real-time physical data and off-line, lab-based, analytical sampling with process quality determined after the process is completed. Stratophase has introduced a real-time, in-line optical media sensor that monitors the media’s status and automates glucose feeding

Get an in-line view with optical fibres
New real time, in-line measurement technologies developed from fibre optics can improve biopharmaceutical process control, enhancing production efficiency, quality and safety by reducing production cycle times, minimising batch rejection, enabling real-time release, increasing the use of automation and facilitating continuous processing. In-line, real-time measurement techniques that provide status monitoring are now being developed to provide the required analytical measurements from within the fermentation media.
