Student designs diabetic 'watch'

Published: 1-Aug-2003

A device designed by a 22 year-old Nottingham Trent University student as part of a BSc degree in product design aims to make life easier for diabetics. Alan Popejoy's Smart Watch would dispense with the need for finger pricking to check blood sugar levels.

The device, worn around the wrist, triggers an alarm when glucose levels become too high or low. Popejoy designed the device because a relative suffers from type two diabetes. A prototype model of the watch was displayed at the New Designers Show in London last month.
