TTP LabTech's Acumen Explorer raises sensitivity

Published: 1-Feb-2005

TTP LabTech, of Royston in the UK, has launched the Acumen Explorer 405nm model with a single violet (405nm) laser excitation source. Already adopted by major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, the Acumen Explorer laser-scanning fluorescence microplate cytometer enables the development and execution of powerful cell-based, high content screens.

Until now, the b-lactamase and blue fluorescent protein reporter systems have routinely been measured by bulk fluorescence readers as single point readouts. In contrast, Acumen Explorer offers multi-parametric analysis at high throughput, allowing rapid, high content assays. By fully exploiting the ratiometric detection of fluorescent enzyme substrates on a cell-by-cell basis, Acumen Explorer 405 claims to provide greater assay sensitivity on plate formats up to the 1536 and 3456 microplates used in uHTS.

'Acumen Explorer with a 405nm excitation source equips the drug discovery community with newly accessible technologies, providing an additional range of high content, high speed and highly sensitive cell-based assays,' said Dr Wayne Bowen, TTP LabTech's chief scientific officer.
