UKAS accreditation for Alta Bioscience
Alta Bioscience, a manufacturing laboratory at the University of Birmingham, has been awarded accreditation from the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) for amino acid analysis and protein sequencing, making it the first UK organisation to receive such accreditation for this type of work.
Alta, established at the university in 1973, is a profit-generating lab that provides analysis and synthesis of DNA, proteins and other biochemical molecules. It offers a range of synthetic, sequencing and analytical methodologies to academia and commercial clients.
Dr John Fox, director of Alta Bioscience, said: 'this recognition is a reflection of the commitment of staff to raising standards in order to meet the GMP specifications and expand into new markets throughout Europe and North America.'
