Thermo Fisher Scientific has introduced the HERAfreeze HD upright freezers featuring thin-wall insulation (HD) technology, which maximises interior storage capacity without increasing the footprint of the cabinet.

The freezers are available in 702- and 889-litre models, with the latter said to be the world's largest ultra-low temperature upright freezer, offering a capacity of 70,000 samples in the same footprint as a conventional 702-litre freezer. A patented refrigeration system and a robust electronics platform are said to provide excellent energy efficiency, temperature stability and fast recovery times, ensuring the highest sample integrity.

The freezers feature a programmable microprocessor control system, real-time visibility and precise temperature setpoints, allowing users quickly and accurately to monitor internal conditions. The design ensures that less heat is emitted into the laboratory and minimal power is consumed to maintain a stable cabinet temperature. Quiet operation allows the freezers to be placed in the lab, speeding up sample preparation and minimising exposure to ambient air.
