Under construction at Genzyme

Genzyme, the UK arm of the US biotechnology company Genzyme Corp, has awarded engineering company CEL International a £13m contract, in addition to the £9m project they are currently working on. Both CEL projects are at Genzyme's UK site in Suffolk, as part of a £50m three-year investment in production capacity. Designated LSP2, the new plant will manufacture Sevelamer, used in the production of Renagel, Genzyme's phosphate binder for dialysis patients to control their phosphate levels. The LSP2 plant will deliver up to 70% more product than produced at the LSP1 facility, even though the LSP2 plant is only marginally larger.
