As part of the group's reorganisation, the former Wacker Specialties fine chemicals and biotechnology operations have been made into a separate business division.
To be called Wacker Fine Chemicals, the new division will focus on the fields of organic fine chemicals, exclusive synthesis and biotechnology. In future, these areas will be managed by their own operational business teams.
The new business division will be headed by Dr Gerhard Schmid, who has held responsibility for the former Fine Chemicals business unit since 2003. 'The creation of an autonomous and independently acting business division for our fine chemicals and biotech activities will allow us to develop promising new growth areas, such as chiral synthesis building blocks and cyclodextrins,' he said. 'At the same time, by splitting off our exclusive synthesis and organic fine chemicals business, we will also be in a much better position to meet our customers' various requirements.'
