ZAFA opens new hormonal facility
ZAFA Pharmaceutical Laboratories has opened its new ZAFA Hormones division in Karachi, Pakistan. Said to be the only unit of its kind in this part of the world, the new factory is a dedicated facility for the manufacture of oral hormonal contraceptives. ZAFA launched Famila-28 oral contraceptives in January 2001. It has now sold 1.5 million cycles, representing 70% of the contraceptive pill market in Pakistan.
ZAFA Pharmaceuticals' quality management system has received GMP endorsement from the Pakistani Ministry of Health. It has also been inspected and approved by Bryan Hartley, former head of inspection and enforcement of the UK's MCA. UK Deputy High Commissioner David Pearey said: 'Pakistan has just entered the elite group of countries able to ensure consumers that its own locally produced contraceptive pills are of world class quality.'
It is understood that the facility will later expand its output to include injectable contraceptive products, currently being manufactured at ZAFA's factory #1. ZAFA operates three production facilities, with another four are at various stages of commissioning.
