A local pharmaceutical company celebrated the adoption of a South Wales charity by supporting one of its biggest fundraising events of the year.

Biotec Services International adopted The Joshua Foundation - a charity of children with terminal cancer - and offered them a financial boost, which helped to kick-start fundraising around the charity's Lite the Nite event.

Lite The Nite attracted hundreds of supporters to a 5km after-dark walk around the grounds of St Fagans National History Museum in Cardiff with illuminated balloons to help raise money for the charity.

Fiona Withey, business development director at Biotec, said: "I am a keen supporter of the work of The Joshua Foundation and am happy that Biotec was able to help out with Lite the Nite."

Withey was sponsored to take part in the event herself and took her son, Daniel, along with her.

Biotec will also be organising a number of its own fundraising events throughout the year. It began by selling its old computers to staff members and donating all proceeds to The Joshua Foundation.

Next year Withey will take part in a 600km bike ride from the North to the South of Israel with other colleagues and will be asking clients, friends and family to support them.

"I hope the money we raise will help to contribute towards making the lives of children with cancer and their families a little easier and better," she said.
