ABB pressure transmitter has SIL certification

ABB Automation believes that its new pressure transmitter is the first to market with TUV certification for compliance with the latest standards for process plant Safety Integrity Levels (SIL).

The ABB Safety 600T pressure transmitter is certified to the IEC Standard 61508/ISA S84.01 for addressing the growing influence of SIL for categorising the probability of failure in process plants and defining the associated risk reduction requirements of the systems and equipment used.

The new transmitter complies with SIL2 and SIL 3 requirements for risk reduction in areas of critical control. The instrument features self-diagnostics, signal validation of both sensor and the electronics and a high level of hardware/software redundancy.

In a SIL2 environment, a single Safety 600T transmitter provides the same level of protection as two conventional units in parallel. In SIL 3, two safety transmitters can be used instead of thee conventional units.
