Anton Paar UK is inviting scientists, laboratory professionals, engineers and quality control specialists to its FREE Viscosity Workshop, taking place on Wednesday 28 October 2026 at its UK laboratory and office in Luton.
Back by popular demand, the one-day workshop is designed to provide attendees with both the theoretical knowledge and practical experience needed to improve viscosity measurement techniques and make greater use of viscosity data.
The workshop will combine expert-led presentations with hands-on laboratory sessions, exploring the principles behind viscosity measurement and how they can be applied to real samples and processes.
Participants will have the opportunity to work with a range of viscosity measurement instruments, compare different measurement approaches and gain practical experience in selecting suitable equipment and test methods for different applications.
Understanding viscosity measurement
Throughout the day, Anton Paar specialists will cover key aspects of viscosity and rheology, including:
- The fundamental theory behind viscosity measurement
- Designing meaningful viscosity measurement experiments
- Different methods of measuring viscosity
- Selecting the appropriate spindle and speed
- Instrument performance checks and calibration
- Common measurement problems and potential pitfalls
- Interpreting viscosity measurement data
- The relationship between shear stress, shear rate and product behaviour
- How rheology can help explain how products flow
- Yield stress, thixotropy and their impact on real-world flow behaviour
The practical sessions will provide attendees with the opportunity to explore a range of viscosity measurement technologies and see how different approaches can affect measurement results.
The programme will include rotational viscosity testing, SVM and Lovis measurement technologies, as well as measuring systems and the creation of flow and viscosity curves using controlled shear rate and controlled shear stress tests.
By combining theory with practical demonstrations, the workshop aims to help attendees better understand their measurement results, identify potential sources of inconsistency and develop more reliable testing approaches.
