The UK has granted a patent to a Canadian inventor for a motorcycle seat design that claims to prevent radiation from penetrating the rider's vital organs.
According to inventor Randall Dale Chipkar of Mississauga, Ontario, many motorcycles generate excessive extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic field (EMF) radiation, which is claimed to travel up through the seat and penetrate into the rider's groin and torso. Various types of ELF EMF radiations have been linked to health disorders including cancer. The prostate is said to be one of the closest delicate glands invaded by the radiation, followed by the colon and other neighbouring organs.
"ELF EMF magnetic fields penetrate through steel and even lead," said Chipkar. "Only highly processed material can dramatically shield us from these cancers."
He added: "People should not have to gamble with their health because they love riding motorcycles. Consumer safety is priority."
Chipkar said he is open to licensing or even selling some of his worldwide patents as long as he is assured that the seats can reach consumers immediately. "Hopefully, this new seat will revolutionise the motorcycle industry to keep riders safer."
