A producer of solid dosage tablets has bought an automated Newman NV2 self-adhesive labelling system.

Arrow Pharm (Malta), the global manufacturing centre for the multinational company Arrow Pharmaceutical Group, made the purchase as part of a new packaging line for bottles containing tablets and capsules.

The line also includes an Unscrambler, Tablet Counter, Capper, Enercon Sealer and Overwrapper. The NV2 was selected by Arrow Pharm (Malta) due to its speed and reliability.

The NV2 has been supplied by Newman with a hot foil printer, missing overprint detector, missing label detector, bar code reader, secondary presser unit, reject station, queue control switch and full validation documentation. The NV2 labels up to 150cpm.

"Malta is fast becoming recognised as a particularly attractive centre for the generic pharmaceuticals industry, and the island's favourable legal environment for generics producers has attracted a number of leading international names including Arrow," said Ian Hillaby, sales director for Newman Labelling Systems. "We are expecting the Maltese patent law - that allows firms to experiment on patented drugs before the patent expires - will attract other pharmaceutical companies to Malta who will be keen to follow Arrow Pharm's success."

Newman Labelling Systems manufactures specialised labelling machines for the pharmaceutical industry.
