Scientists at Oxford University's Chemistry Research Laboratory (CRL) are preventing water wastage by using Liquiport diaphragm pumps from KNF Flodos to generate vacuum.

The Chemistry Department's state-of-the-art facility hosts laboratories working in a range of disciplines, including physical, theoretical, organic and inorganic chemistry, and chemical biology.

"Typically, chemists use a lot of vacuum systems in their daily work," explained Richard Jones, buildings and facilities manager, and administrator of the CRL.

"Traditional, old fashioned water-driven systems are capable of wasting a great deal of water, so the CRL looked for more economic and environmentally friendly solutions. We needed something that is small and resistant to chemicals, so we tried a Liquiport pump from KNF, and found it was ideal".

The Liquiport is a multipurpose liquid pump that has been specifically designed for industry and laboratory use. The simple technology is easy to maintain and highly resistant to a variety of chemicals, ensuring a long service life, KNF says.

"Several researchers in the facility have now switched to Liquiports and I hope the pumps will still be running in ten or twenty years" time!" added Jones.
