Ali Hussein, vice president of marketing at InnoCentive recently travelled throughout China, meeting with university officials and formalizing the agreements. 'We has developed strong ties with the scientific community in China, organizing special events such as virtual scientific competitions and scientific forums,' he said. 'China has surpassed the US in the number of registered solvers, and we look forward to working with its scientists further in order to expand the global boundaries of scientific r&d.'

The company now has partnerships with ten of China's leading research universities - including the Beijing University of Chemical Technology, the National Natural Sciences Foundation of China (NSFC), and the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering at Peking University - providing students, researchers and professors at these nstitutions with the opportunity to gain recognition and financial reward for solving scientific problems posted by the world's leading r&d companies.

'China's strong commitment to scientific excellence makes it the ideal partner for InnoCentive. Students at its leading universities are tomorrow's global scientific leaders,' said Darren J. Carroll, president and ceo, InnoCentive.

InnoCentive, an e-business venture of Eli Lilly, is the first online forum to bring together world-class scientists and science-based companies from across the globe to solve r&d challenges. Companies, including Dow Chemical and Procter & Gamble, which collectively spend billions of dollars on r&d, post scientific problems confidentially on the InnoCentive website, enabling over 75,000 leading scientists and scientific organizations located in more than 165 countries to attempt to solve them. Financial rewards for effective solutions can range up to $100,000.
