UK labelling and weighing specialist Herbert unveiled the Sigma label applicators today, which the firm described as ‘modular, future-proof and versatile’.

This family of products, designed at the firm’s Haverhill, Suffolk plant, accommodate a number of label application technologies, including knife-edge, blow-apply and wrap-around in three widths of 150mm, 200mm and 300mm. They are applicable to a range of industry sectors, including pharmaceuticals.

The Sigma labelling machines also incorporate the latest in PLC, servo-motor and colour touchscreen technologies. The user-friendly software interface on the touchscreen provides simple basic operation while providing access to powerful configuration and setup tools for more advanced users.

‘With the new Sigma range we set out to build a product that will address a broad range of top, base and side labelling configurations and would ensure that a customer would not become locked into technology that could become obsolete by the first change in their customers’ labelling requirements,’ said product manager Graham Dorney.

Other features include zero downtime auto-labeller changeover on multi-applicator machines, label low detection and alarms, and intelligent label web to conveyor speed synchronisation.
