Augmented reality app for pump maintenance

AR visual instructions are laid over the customer’s pump to illustrate the tools needed for proper maintenance

Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group (WMFTG) has launched the first in a series of augmented reality (AR) apps. Designed to enhance the customer experience and post-sales support, this first app is a companion for the company’s Certa Sine pump.

The app allows customers to identify the tools required for the pump’s maintenance tasks while providing information and step-by-step visual guidance. Although it’s designed such that users do not need previous experience of AR, the app does target a digital native skillset, utilising visual and digital technology to deliver information. By laying AR visual instructions over a customer’s own pump, the app aims to aid customer understanding of a task and saves time previously spent consulting written product manuals.

The app was developed by WMFTG’s digital transformation department. Head of Department, Matthew Thomas said: “The growth of this department demonstrates WMFTG’s continued commitment to the pursuit of creative and accessible customer focussed solutions.
