Live from CPhI: Laurus Infosystems develops Chemia ELN

After feedback from a group of experienced research scientists

Laurus Infosystems, the software division of Laurus Labs of India, announced Chemia, an electronic lab notebook (ELN), at this week’s CPhI in Madrid.

The Bangalore-based firm says the electronic notebook has been developed with a group of experienced research scientists at Laurus Labs who had been using paper notebooks to record details of their experiments. This group defined their requirements for a transition from paper to an electronic system that complies with FDA and EMA regulations. This group tested the Chemia software and provided feedback and will act as the reference site.

Priya Ranjan Belwariar, president of Laurus Infosystems, says the company has completed its internal release of the Chemia software, and after further fine-tuning it is expected to be launched in December.

The firm says Chemia will be one-tenth of the price of the cheapest ELN software currently available, at US$45,000 for a licence for up to 10 users.

‘We are aiming Chemia at those scientists who aren’t using ELN software and who are finding it difficult to buy and implement because it is too expensive,’ says Belwariar.

‘Chemia is a revolutionary ELN product that will contribute hugely in helping research scientists and labs become more efficient. Chemia manages projects effectively and protects the IP of the organisation.’

In addition, the software helps users to store, retrieve and analyse data efficiently, streamline workflows and improve compliance.
