Golden LEAF BTEC centre will initially introduce MES system into its biotech laboratory

North Carolina State University’s Biomanufacturing Training and Education Centre (BTEC) in Raleigh is installing LZ Lifescience’s manufacturing execution system (MES) at its biotech laboratory, replacing paper-based systems with electronic batch record (EBR) capabilities to improve performance and efficiency.

Students and industry professionals will now be able to access hands-on learning with the latest MES technology for biomanufacturing.

LZ Lifescience will provide training and support to the BTEC team as its MES technology, Shopfloor-Online Lifescience edition is installed in the centre's chromatography work space. Its use will later be extended across the whole biomanufacturing facility.

The Golden LEAF BTEC provides education and training to develop skilled professionals for the biomanufacturing industry. It also offers bioprocess development and analytical services to academia and industry.

The centre is kitted out with more than US$12.5m of industry-standard equipment and a simulated current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) pilot plant facility capable of producing biopharmaceutical products using cell growth and expression, recovery and purification processes in a sterile environment.

Shopfloor-Online is a web-based product that has already been installed across the world. The launch of the Lifescience edition in December 2015 extended its functionality to meet the requirements of the life science industry.
