OPTIMA Packaging Group has published its second sustainability report in accordance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), outlining its environmental, social and governance (ESG) progress across the company and its wider value chain.
The German packaging machinery manufacturer said the report takes a holistic approach to sustainability, with long-term competitiveness closely linked to responsible manufacturing and technology development.
OPTIMA has also received a renewed EcoVadis Platinum Medal, placing the company among the top one per cent of companies assessed in the mechanical and plant engineering sector worldwide.
In 2025, the company’s greenhouse gas footprint was externally verified for the first time, providing a basis for monitoring its emissions reduction targets.
Renewable energy and efficient machinery
Renewable energy accounted for 71% of OPTIMA’s total energy consumption, an increase of 15 percentage points year on year.
The company has also installed photovoltaic systems at sites in Germany and Brazil to increase renewable energy generation and energy self-sufficiency.
OPTIMA said it is continuing to develop its packaging machinery portfolio, focusing on modularity, energy efficiency and durability.
The firm added that it is also expanding its service offering and digitalisation initiatives as part of its broader emissions reduction strategy.
The company’s emissions targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with a long-term objective of achieving net-zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2050.
Cybersecurity becomes sustainability priority
For the first time, OPTIMA’s sustainability report includes data protection and information security as a dedicated focus area.
The company said its centralised data protection management system supports regulatory compliance, while an ISO-certified information security management system is designed to mitigate risks including data loss, tampering and unauthorised access.
OPTIMA has also introduced employee awareness initiatives covering AI and cyberattack risks.
People remain central to sustainability strategy
Alongside its environmental commitments, OPTIMA said its “We care for people” programme places employees at the centre of its sustainability strategy.
This includes training and development opportunities, while the company said it also supports around 60 social and charitable projects both locally and beyond.
OPTIMA has additionally joined the Baden-Württemberg Climate Alliance, a state and business initiative focused on accelerating climate protection and sustainable transformation.
The company said it will continue working with employees, customers and partners to implement its sustainability strategy, with measures spanning renewable energy, machinery efficiency, digitalisation and internationalisation.
