Porvair holds up a mirror to higher productivity

A high productivity sample processing system for use with automated pipetting systems has been launched by UK company Porvair Sciences. The Mirror Rack facilitates rapid and direct pipetting of cryo-vial samples from clinical trials into standard 96-well microplates. Used in conjunction with a 96-tip liquid handling head, the Mirror Rack enables sample transfer into a 96-well plate in less than 40 seconds without the need to change pipette tips.

The two halves of the Mirror Rack are colour coded to minimise the chance of sample confusion. The first 48-position rack positions sample vials to align with half of the tips of a standard 96-tip liquid handling head.

These samples are then dispensed into half the well of a 96-well microplate. The second rack - a mirror image of the first - positions a further 48 vials to align with the tips not used in the first part of the process and these samples are then directly transferred into the remaining empty wells on the microplate.

The Mirror Rack is approved for use in deep freezes and is compatible with most centrifuges.
