Resin-loaded plugs offer convenience and savings

Pre-prepared, resin-loaded plugs for use in the synthesis of small molecules either by solution or solid phase or for peptide synthesis have been launched by UK-based Polymer Laboratories.

StratoSphere Plugs entrap the resin in a pre-packaged format that eliminates the need for time-consuming weighing but still allows the resin to react in a normal manner.

The plugs are porous, composite devices made by co-sintering HDDPE with solid phase synthesis resins, solid support reagents or scavengers. They are said to be physically robust and can be used in all types of agitation systems, including magnetic stirring, vortexing or nitrogen bubbling.

Manufactured in a size and shape to suit most 48- or standard 96-well formats, the resin is distributed evenly throughout the plug.
