Sigma-Aldrich has acquired ChemNavigator, a provider of software tools used for the design, selection and procurement of chemical compound libraries, for an undisclosed amount.
The St Louis, US-based life science and high technology company says the acquisition links ChemNavigator's virtual screening and selection tools and searchable database of more than 60 million compounds with its core strengths in chemical compound management, procurement and global distribution to accelerate discovery research programmes.
ChemNavigator, which has operations in San Diego, US and Australia, provides chemists with a set of virtual screening tools and products that allows them to channel their chemical designs towards sets of commercially available compounds. The company's iResearch Library contains millions of chemical products available for selection and purchase, ranging from drug-like compounds for testing in molecular screening to synthetic building blocks used in chemical synthesis.
"This acquisition enables Sigma-Aldrich to provide the research community with an efficient, seamless discovery offer that extends from virtual selection to compound delivery," said Dr Ilya Koltover, manager of business development at Sigma-Aldrich.
"Joining Sigma-Aldrich brings ChemNavigator's database and cheminformatics tools to a broader scientific audience and will allow scientists to utilise the full potential of both companies" expertise to accelerate their research," added Scott Hutton, president and ceo of ChemNavigator.
