Anton Paar introduces the SmartMelt series, a state-of-the-art polymer melt rheometer designed to deliver precise, comprehensive rheological measurements with unmatched cost-efficiency and performance. Equipped with the most advanced electrical temperature oven on the market, the SmartMelt series ensures highly accurate temperature control, with temperature measurements taken directly at the sample to minimise gradients.

Unlike one-point tests, such as the Melt Flow Index (MFI), SmartMelt offers a complete rheological profile through various tests, including flow curve, oscillation, creep, relaxation, and more. The system’s advanced capabilities make it an essential tool for research and quality control in polymer characterisation.

The SmartMelt series fully complies with ASTM D4440 standards, providing reliable and consistent results for industrial and research applications. A range of features enhances ease of use and reduces the time required for training and measurement. Toolmaster ensures automatic recognition of the measuring geometries and accessories, while QuickConnect allows one-handed coupling of measuring geometries in seconds. RheoCompass templates provide pre-prepared workflows, making operation straightforward, and specialised tools simplify sample preparation and cleaning.

The SmartMelt series is designed with sustainability and efficiency in mind. It operates with minimal resource consumption, reducing energy and compressed gas usage while maintaining low noise levels. Inert gas can also be used to prevent sample degradation, ensuring optimal results for sensitive materials.

The integrated RheoCompass software offers powerful analysis tools, including calculations of zero-shear viscosity, cross-over points, curing characteristics, regressions based on rheological models, and many more.

As a highlight, the Time-Temperature Superposition (TTS) is included, which provides deeper insights into polymer behaviour. The software includes customisable reporting options and pre-configured templates for quick and efficient analysis. Frequent updates ensure the software remains current, with new analysis tools added regularly to meet the evolving needs of polymer researchers and manufacturers.

SmartMelt redefines polymer rheology with its precision, reliability, and efficiency,  making it an indispensable instrument for polymer research and quality control.
