US-based Symyx Technologies has announced the launch of its collaborative research services for life sciences. These services allow clients to access Symyx's installed base of parallel experimentation and testing capabilities through packaged offerings for solubility studies, polymorph screening, salt selection, co-crystallisation, API stability in liquid and solid formulations, excipient compatibility, organic synthesis and process optimisation.

Symyx recently signed a one-year agreement with Bristol-Myers Squibb for the use of Symyx Research Services for solubility studies. Under terms of the agreement, Symyx will perform solubility studies for BMS through until May 2009.

Symyx Research Services offer considerable flexibility with contracts ranging from a single experiment screen up to tens of thousands of experiments per year. Customer also benefit from access to Symyx's capability to execute and analyse hundreds of experiments quickly and to deliver results in days not months.

It provides greater experimental insight through development of more comprehensive data sets using automated parallel experimentation than can be achieved through traditional manual processes. Symyx Research Services also provide seamless replication of data and results to an existing customer-managed Symyx database and dynamic access to data sets using Symyx Software, which allows evaluation of full and raw data sets not static PDF reports.

"Symyx Research is continuing to transform its offerings into packaged, smaller scope and easily accessible solutions," said Richard Boehner, president of Symyx Research. "Combining our industry-leading research capabilities with real-time data analysis to deliver results on demand frees companies from internal capability constraints while substantially reducing the cost of r&d."
