'Have you ever seen a mermaid with a pot belly?' reads the blurb for a new product which purports to use certain contents of brown seaweed to reduce belly fat.

Fucoxanthin, a compound found in brown seaweed that health and wellness company Garden of Life says attacks belly fat, is now available as a weight management supplement called fucoTHIN.

The product has been 'clinically proven on humans' and naturally promotes thermogenesis, the process by which the body increases its metabolic rate and requires the utilisation of internal stores of energy such as fat.

A human clinical trial yielded results indicating that fucoTHIN supports the breakdown of fat in white adipose tissue, or visceral fat cells, which accumulate in the liver and around the stomach and organs.

'Combined with a diet and exercise program, fucoTHIN can be an important addition to a healthy weight management plan,' said Marie Spano, a registered dietician.

FucoTHIN's proprietary formula was researched and developed for more than seven years by leading scientists and research groups and contains a proprietary blend of fucoxanthin, a carotenoid found in brown seaweed, and pomegranate seed oil, an antioxidant.

Who would have thought that the secrets of the deep may yield the secret to a flat tummy? Just as long as you don't forget to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly.
