Precision fluid control is fundamental to many medical technologies and applications. Devices such as heart-lung machines, dialysis equipment, bolus injections and infusion pumps rely on stable and accurate monitoring of liquid flow rates to maintain patient safety and therapeutic effectiveness. In response to these requirements, Titan Enterprises is developing a small-bore clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter designed specifically for medical and life-science applications.
Clamp-on ultrasonic measurement offers a non-invasive alternative to traditional inline flow sensors. By transmitting ultrasonic signals through the wall of flexible medical tubing, the device can determine flow velocity without contacting the process fluid. This approach preserves sterile pathways and eliminates the risk of contamination associated with wetted components - an important consideration in systems handling blood, sterile liquids or pharmaceutical formulations.
The clamp-on ultrasonic sensor technology also enables measurement without disrupting established fluid circuits. This is particularly valuable in critical care equipment where continuous, uninterrupted flow is essential for patient safety. Sensors can be rapidly mounted externally on common medical tubing materials, including flexible plastics widely used in disposable fluid circuits.
Typical monitoring targets include blood and blood components, intravenous medications, nutrient solutions and other sterile clinical fluids. With no moving parts and minimal maintenance requirements, clamp-on ultrasonic sensors can deliver reliable performance in environments where hygiene, accuracy and system integrity are paramount.
