The first nominees to have accepted the invitation to join the Chemistry Leadership Council (CLC) formed under the direction of the Chemicals Innovation & Growth Team (CIGT) Advisory Board were named at the conference by CLC chairman Barry Stickings, chairman of BASF plc.

The first members of this group are Jeremy Scudamore of Avecia; Brian Murphy of Robinson Brothers; Steve Ley, from Cambridge University; Jonathon Porritt, of Forum for the Future; and Judith Hackitt, CIA director general. A further eight people are to be invited to join the council, including more industry representatives and other stakeholders, including the UK Department of Trade & Industry and Trades Unions.

Members of the CLC will be expected to take on a special responsibility for the sponsorship and mentoring of the groups formed within the Council. Judith Hackitt and Jonathon Porritt have already agreed to do this for the Futures Group and Jeremy Scudamore and Steve Ley will sponsor and mentor the Chemicals Innovation Centre.
