Croda offers fish gelatins

Published: 5-Aug-2002

Croda Healthcare has launched a range of fish-derived gelatins for pharmaceutical and edible applications as an alternative to traditional bovine gelatins. The new line is a response to consumer issues such as BSE, and the need for Halal and Kosher certification, and has the same functionality as mammalian-sourced gelatin.

Croda's fish gelatins are targeted primarily at soft and hard shell capsule manufacturers, tablet binders and microencapsulators. Both gelling and non-gelling grades are available in a range of bloom strengths. The fish gelatins possess a low odour and neutral taste; pharmaceutical grades comply with European, US and Japanese pharmacopoeia.

In addition, the company has produced a new booklet on gelatin, Gelfax, which provides formulators and processors with comprehensive technical data on all aspects of gelatin manufacture and use.
