Gaining an insider's VIEW

The South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), a government-funded agency responsible for economic and social development in the South East of England, has teamed up with Eli Lilly and Company in the UK to give GCSE students (aged 14-16) taking new vocational courses the chance to gain a deeper understanding of the pharmaceutical industry.

They will provide schools with a Virtual Interactive Employer's Workplace (VIEW) application: a CD-Rom that tours Lilly's research centre in Windlesham, Surrey, and provides students with information on scientific research and the regulations that cover the pharmaceutical industry. It incorporates an interactive behind-the-scenes guided tour and interviews with Lilly employees.

John Parsonage, director of Learning & Skills at SEEDA, added: 'Work-related learning is a vital component of the school curriculum and we must do everything we can to help businesses work more closely with young people. We believe that VIEW will have an impact on the career choices that youngsters make.'
