Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients, 4th edition

Published: 1-Jun-2003

Everything pharmaceutical formulators need to know about excipients can be found in the Handbook of Pharmaceutical Excipients from the Pharmaceutical Press and the American Pharmaceutical Association. It is an authoritative and comprehensive guide to the uses, properties and safety of excipients.

The fourth edition has contributions from more than 100 pharma scientists from around the world, and has been expanded to include 40 new monographs, while completely revising and updating the details of the 210 excipients found in the 3rd edition.

The information consists of monographs that are divided into 22 sections, which include chemical formulae, typical properties, formulation application, regulatory status, handling precautions, and pharmaceopeial specifications. Apart from a general bibliography, there are also individually sited references for each excipient.

There is an on-line version accessed via a dedicated password protected site, and Manufacturing Chemist readers can set up a free one month trial by contacting: electronicinfo@rpsgb.org.uk.

Updates via a CD-ROM are available annually, which also has an intuitive search and navigation feature, and the added bonus of a searchable suppliers directory.

The handbook is an excellent reference source for companies formulating drug products, regulatory authorities and academia.
