Boehringer Ingelheim has chosen Honeywell Process Solutions to implement Experion Process Knowledge System at its recently opened new biopharmaceutical plant in Biberach, Germany.
The plant in Biberach is the largest biopharmaceutical production plant in Europe. While a typical batch installation is up to 200 phases, the new Boehringer Ingelheim facility runs more than 2,000 phases. To automate processes and optimise operations throughout the facility, Honeywell implemented Experion and advanced software applications. Experion will encompass about 90 redundant controllers, approximately 20,000 Input/Output points, more than 2,000 phases combined with more than 1,000 batch operations and unit recipes to be handled and a significant amount of local operator stations.
Honeywell software applications TotalPlant Batch, Uniformance Process Historian Database, Fail Safe Controller (FSC) and Asset Manager PKS will be linked by Experion to provide total plant information, communication and control. TotalPlant will provide integrated batch automation, and will guarantee compliance with the industry's highest reliability and regulatory requirements. Honeywell's Fail Safe Controller (FSC) and Asset Manager PKS applications provide safety-critical supervisory functions and automate plant asset management.
