German manufacturer IWK Verpackungstechnik is extending its range of tube fillers, blister packers and cartoners with new low-to-medium speed machines aimed at shorter-run production.

All of the new machines employ servo drive and intelligent controls to reduce downtime for product changeover.

The new BP10 mid-range blister packing machine is based on IWK's BP20 machine. The BP10 uses the same intelligent drive system that keeps sealing time constant during speed changes, thereby reducing substantially the cost of validation and downtime for product changeover.

The BP10 will be linked to a new generation compact intermittent motion cartoner, the IWK SI-10. Together the machines occupy a line length of just 8 metres.

IWK's new laser based tube sealing system has been developed to provide a more consistent seal quality than the hot air systems usually employed for sealing plastic and laminate tubes, thus reducing changeover times. The laser works virtually instantaneously to heat the seal area inside the tube, which is then ready for closing by the jaws.
