Hosokawa Micron's new IntelliMill, an "intelligent milling system" that automatically adjusts its milling parameters to optimise mill performance, is said to offer a flexible and modular approach to particle size distribution measurement that is suitable for numerous processes and budgets.

A dial-in product specification facility means that the mill will automatically change set points to achieve product specification and process optimisation without manual intervention.

Using Malvern Process Systems" Insitec dry powder on-line particle size analysis technology along with Hosokawa's own classifier and air jet mill mills with advanced process control, the IntelliMill can be used in stand-alone operation or with a wide range of PLC comms options.

Its main modular options are:

  • Insitec: continuous particle size measurement;
  • Optimisation package: fault diagnosis and preventative plant maintenance scheduling;
  • Advisor: real time advice on optimised operating parameters;
  • Predictor: real time advice on running previous materials to new particle size specifications;
  • Cruise control: multi-input/output controller that enables automatic control and operation of the milling system.

The mill also offers accurate recipe control, batch consistency/comparability and smooth batch-to-batch transition with minimum operator intervention, while minimising out-of-specification product. It is available for integration with ERP systems, and CIP/SIP and intrinsically safe variants are available.
