A new design of single straight tube Coriolis mass flowmeter that ensures problem-free installation and maximum accuracy in notoriously difficult applications has been launched by Krohne, based in Wellingborough, UK.
The Series 70, an innovative range of single straight tube meters is part of Krohne's new Optimass mass flowmeter family. The range claims to be the first of its kind to provide wetted parts in titanium, stainless steel and Hastelloy, allowing material selection to give corrosion resistance for almost any process fluid.
Installation options are virtually unlimited because the new straight tube design allows for siting anywhere in the process pipework without any need for clamping, and a complete range of process connectors is available. A unique feature is the capability to support the meter on its own body, something that was impossible with most Coriolis mass flowmeters.
The Series 70 will deliver accurate metering for a wide range of flow rates ranging from 20kg/h up to 560,000kg/h (0.75-20,500lbs/min), while handling high viscosity fluids and particulate matter with ease. The straight tube design is resistant to blocking or fouling, and maintains a high level of accuracy even in the presence of entrained air.
In the development of the new straight tube, Krohne has incorporated Adaptive Sensor Technology (AST), a unique, new patented design which intelligently 'tunes' each meter, and decouples the external forces and fluid density, to produce a balanced meter which remains stable in the most demanding processes.
Optimass Series 70 also offers the advantage of a new patented hygienic coupling design; an ingenious single seal aseptic process connection system in accordance with DIN 11864-2, which satisfies the stringent hygiene demands in the pharmaceutical industry.
The Series 70 is designed to comply with a broad range of industry standards such as ASME Bioprocessing equipment, EHEDG and 3A. Meters are constructed from FDA approved materials, and are manufactured in accordance with European Pressure Directives (PED) as well as Cenelec, ATEX and FM standards, making them suitable for use in hazardous environments.
Also available as part of the new Optimass family is the Series 71, a new range of Z tube meters, designed primarily for low flow applications.
Krohne's range of Optimass mass flowmeters incorporates a new design of electronics which provides excellent flexibility. The main converter can be mounted integrally or remotely at a distance of up to 300m, and requires only standard 4-core cable, whereas competitive systems can require up to 10-wire cabling.
As well as the main converter, a sensor signal processor is mounted permanently on the meter with direct connection to the sensors. Both sets of electronics store the sensor data so that should the need arise to change either set the data can simply be downloaded. The electronics are of modular design andwill fit any of the meter sizes within the Series 70 range, reducing the spares stocking requirements.
