NEWS FROM CPhI – Faster API dissolution with Alubra PG-100

Published: 8-Oct-2010

Said to be a more hydrophilic lubricant than magnesium stearate

FMC Biopolymer’s Alubra PG-100 is a new lubricant that facilitates tablet disintegration and active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) dissolution.

The US-headquartered manufacturer of pharmaceutical and supplement excipients says Alubra PG-100 sodium stearyl fumarate is a more hydrophilic lubricant than magnesium stearate.

According to FMC, magnesium stearate tends to form ‘envelopes’ around API particles, slowing tablet disintegration and API dissolution, whereas the more hydrophilic Alubra promotes faster API dissolution of poorly soluble active ingredients.

Other benefits of Alubra include superior tablet hardness and compatibility with a range of APIs.

Alubra PG-100 is now available in small samples to pharmaceutical manufacturers.
