No more dust when loading powder onto pneumatic conveyors

Published: 3-Jan-2006

Bulk solids handling specialist Flexicon (Europe) has launched a new Manual Dumping Station for pneumatic conveyors. The station collects dust created during manual dumping of powder and bulk solid materials from bags, boxes, drums and other containers and is intended to reduce material waste and eliminate the need to clean a remote dust collection site, while protecting workers from dust inhalation and preventing plant contamination.

The hopper has a non-flow-through pick-up adaptor for introducing material into vacuum pneumatic conveyor lines. Hoppers are also available with rotary airlock valves and outlets for connection to a flexible screw conveyor or other process equipment. A high velocity vacuum fan draws airborne dust from the operator's atmosphere onto two cartridge filters. Automatic reverse-pulse filter cleaning allows continuous operation; timer activated solenoid valves release short blasts of compressed plant air inside cartridge filters, causing dust build-up on the outer filter surfaces to fall into the hopper. Filters can be accessed easily by removing the interior baffle and replaced rapidly using quick-disconnect fittings.

The system is available mounted on frames with boom and casters for in-plant mobility. It is constructed of carbon steel and is available with either a durable industrial finish or stainless steel finish to pharmaceutical standards. Hoppers are also available configured for connection to pneumatic conveyors or process equipment.
